With a soft breeze blowing from Jenkins Creek, no humidity or bugs, it was a perfect late summer evening, with a hint of fall in the air. We gathered at the pool pavilion and filled the pool area to capacity as we celebrated our 25th Year as a yacht club.
Thanks to the excellent planning and hard work of Lenda Jablonski, Mary Kay Noren, and Bev Yoder, we had a great celebration. With the music and electric personality of DJ Dave, we enjoyed cocktails, camaraderie, and a buffet of appetizers, salads, sides, entrees, and desserts contributed by our members.
A slide show of over 500 photos from our archives provided a perfect backdrop. Thanks Al Dedel and DJ Dave. Special recognition was given to a longstanding member of our Board of Governors, Cindy Schafer, Communications Chair, who has worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to produce the “Tides”, develop and send over 25 artistic notices of events, and participate in the production of all DIYC publications. Without Cindy, the word would not get out!
Another highlight of the evening was the remembrance of all of the past Commodores. There were 14 Commodores present who gathered for a group photo. A photo gallery of the evening can be found below.
The celebration was indicative of the strength of DIYC through a difficult year in which we have not had a marina and are working hard to see it rebuilt.
Thanks to all who made this possible. The year is not yet over, so check your calendar for the Bohicket Cruise/Luncheon, the Edisto Yacht Club Cruise/Luncheon, the Dataw Cup, kayak trips, and, of course, the Commodore’s Ball.
Fair winds and storm free waters!
